Otomiya Haine is a high school student who attends an elite private school called the Imperial Academy. She was once a gang member as a result of her lack of self-confidence due to family issues, but worked to make herself a better person after meeting a boy named Shizumasa, who convinced her to live her life the way she wanted to. She now attends the academy because he is also there, and she is in love with him and his children's story that he wrote. However, Shizumasa does not seem to recognize her or acknowledge her feelings. That does not stop Haine, however, as she is determined to build their relationship stronger. In turn she finds out that the boy at the academy who she is falling deeper in love with is not Shizumasa, but his twin brother Takanari. He at first pushes her away because he knows that he is not Shizumasa, but after finding out she loves the person who wrote the children's book, realizes that she thinks she is in love with Shizumasa but in reality is in love with him. Haine is very confused when she finds out about the situation, but comes to terms with the fact that Takanari is the one she loves. Though she is arranged to marry Shizumasa, she challenges their family's system and tries to free the brothers of their fates.

I really am enjoying reading Shinshi Doumei Cross (the series is still going) for its wonderful plot and characters, but mainly because I absolutely adore the relationship between Takanari and Haine. I was unable to stop reading once I started because I waited and waited to see what would happen between these two. Even now I am left hanging since the series is not over, but that just goes to show how much I really like their relationship. The fact that Haine falls in love with him even despite the fact he is not Shizumasa and does not realize it and that Takanari cannot help but be drawn to her bright and spirited personality that loves him and how they are brought together really appealed to me. I love all the main relationships in Arina Tanemura's series, but Takanari and Haine affected me the most emotionally. They have become one of my favorite relationships of all time, and even though this tribute to them is more on the smaller side due to my lack of ability to provide decent media, I had to make something to show my support.
