Digimon was only a card game to Rika and others in the real world. She was considered the "Digimon Queen" because of her extraordinary talent in the card game. Bored with her life, she returns home after a tournament to find a strange blue card near her Digimon card scanner, and decides to see what it is. After slashing it through, the scanner turns into a D-Power, and she considers it a sign that she is allowed to make a wish. She wishes for Renamon, a strong Digimon, to be her Digimon partner and for herself to become a tamer. Getting her wish, Rika wanders the town and takes care of random Digimon that appear like she was playing a videogame. She wanted to be the best Digimon tamer and therefore needed Renamon to digivolve. After learning that love and kindness was the key to getting Renamon to digivolve, a little of her cold exterior begins to melt. She joins up with Takato and Henry and ends up working with them and eventually a few others to save both the real and digital worlds.
All of the girls up until season three of Digimon were generally very kind, sweet, and feminine, so when I was introduced to Rika's character, I was automatically attracted. Rika not only looked different, but she was definitely not someone to be messed with, and was the first to not treat her partner with respect right off the bat. I did not agree with how she treated Renamon (and other Digimon for that matter) in the beginning, of course, but I really liked her character because of the development she undergoes during the series. Rika was always quick to think on her feet, as well as very knowledgeable about Digimon and the card game. She was my idol when I was a kid, and started the trend of me liking those types of female characters. Rika impressed me, and definitely left a mark as a childhood favorite. Renamon, of course, left the same impression. Though I am not AS obsessed with the series anymore, and it is taking me a while to revamp this thing, I really wanted to have a tribute to her because she has so much sentimental value.
