INUYASHA: KIKYOU
STATUS: ACTIVE (90% COMPLETE)
Kikyou is a powerful miko that lived in Feudal Japan. She was assigned the duty of protecting and purifying the Shikon no Tama, a jewel that had the power to grant demons and extraordinary power. Kikyou fell in love with the half-demon Inuyasha, and the two eventually made a promise for him to use the Shikon no Tama to become human and live with her. Unfortunately, the wounded bandit that Kikyou had been treating in a cave was overcome with feelings of jealousy and allowed demons to eat his soul and make a new body for him. He interferes with the lovers' plans and turns them against each other in hopes of tainting the jewel as well as making Kikyou his own. Much to his dismay, Kikyou chooses to follow Inuyasha in death after sealing him to a tree, and takes the Shikon no Tama with her. After her reincarnation, Higurashi Kagome travels back to Feudal Japan and frees Inuyasha, Kikyou is revived by an ogre who wants to collect the jewel shards. Kikyou's new body is made of dirt from her grave as well as her bones, and she lives fueled by the anger she felt for Inuyasha before she died. She must nourish her body with souls of young girls in order to move, and travels the lands much freer then she was when she was alive.

I started watching InuYasha when I was in seventh grade, but I did not discover Kikyou's character until after I bought the game InuYasha Feudal Fairytale for the Playstation. From the moment I unlocked her character, I knew she was going to be one of my favorite characters of all time. It turned out that I was right, as she is my favorite female character of all time. Though I do not agree with all of the things that she does, I admire her and respect the fact that she has a reason for all of her actions. Kikyou has had so much bashing and hatred over the years on the net, and that just fueled my desire to shrine her even more. Of course, for as much hatred as she had, she had as many shrines to people who loved her. Unfortunately, the InuYasha fandom has died tremendously, and there is barely anything left. I hope to provide a decent Kikyou source for those who still like the fandom. Once known as the very crappy shrine entitled "Faded Light" long ago, Alterna is one of my dearest tributes to my favorite female anime character.
