Sora, Riku and Kairi were three close friends that spent most of their free time on Destiny Islands. Kairi came to their islands from an outside world, and inspired Riku to want to know what other worlds were out there. As a result, the three friends decide to build a raft in order to explore and find the answers to Riku's questions. The night before their planned departure, a storm hits the islands and the three of them are separated. Sora and Riku go their separate ways in search of Kairi, and find that she has lost her heart! With their rivalry stronger than ever, Sora must find a way to stop the takeover of Heartless while looking for Kairi's heart, which is closer than he thinks.
In the past, a lot of people tended to ask me what I liked about Kairi, since she was not exactly brimming with action in the original Kingdom Hearts. I argued that there were plenty of things to like about her, such as her intelligence, bravery and wisdom. I will say that I am one of the few Kairi fans that has supported her since before she became "super cool" in Kingdom Hearts II. I personally thought that Kairi was far from weak in the original game, and was very brave despite her situation and physical strength. She is just a normal girl with no weapon, so you cannot expect her to jump in there and fight like Sora does. Protecting Sora from the Heartless when he was unable to fight back really shows her true character, and I think that is what is important. Kairi is not one to be grouped with the girls who stand at the sidelines and do nothing as she has been commonly been placed. I purposely divided this shrine by game so I could defend her role in Kingdom Hearts without using anything from the second game for this reason.
